Urgent: Protect our Genetic Integrity and Take Action to
Support Maryland’s HB1422

Last week we asked you to take action on the Senate version, SB914; this week the companion House bill HB1422 will be heard.

This bill protects our genetic integrity by banning discrimination based on refusal to undergo a genetic procedure.

House Health and Government Operations Committee:

Friday March 8, 2024, 2:00pm EST

Registration required: Wednesday March 6, 2024, 8:00am-6:00pm EST

Maryland’s HB1422 prohibits discrimination in employment, education, public accommodations, commercial leasing, and housing based on a person’s refusal to undergo a genetic procedure. This bill is now set for a hearing at the House Health and Government Operations Committee on Friday March 8, 2024.

  1.  Sign up to submit written testimony, testify remotely, or testify in person with the instructions below.

  2.  Email your delegate and the Committee by clicking on the Take Action link below.

Maryland law already protects your genetic privacy, and this bill would recognize your right to maintain your own genetic integrity by prohibiting unwanted genetic procedures. This will protect you from both existing procedures and newly developed technologies that can alter your genetic materials.

Register on Wednesday March 6 to Submit Written Testimony and/or Testify in Support of this Bill!

In order to sign up for the Friday March 8 hearing, you must register on Wednesday March 6 between 8:00am and 6:00pm EST.
