Act Now! Support Vermont H393, a bill to prohibit face mask mandates at public and independent schools
and institutions of higher education.

Vermont students have faced a variety of face mask mandates since 2020. Dedicated activists have crafted H393, entitled “An act relating to the prohibition of requiring face masks in schools,” to protect students from forced face masking. Masking is a health decision and should be made only by an individual or a parent of a student. The bill protects the health freedom of students, staff, and visitors, and it allows people to bring a lawsuit if a school violates its directive.

Vermont Stands Up is leading the charge to move this bill, and their website has information about H393, along with other proposals impacting health freedom in the state and a petition opposing school masking. Key reasons to support this proposal include:

    • Masking interferes with breathing, and it is a health decision to be made as such by an individual or a parent of a student.

    • Masking harms students’ normal socialization.

    •  Masking does not work to prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses, studies suggest.

On February 26, 2025 H393 was referred to the Vermont House Committee on Education, which can consider the bill and allow witnesses, or not, at its own discretion. The current two-year session ends on May 8, 2026. You can Take Action below to let this Committee know that this important bill should be given a hearing and passed into law!
