Urgent: Protect our Genetic Integrity and Take Action to
Support Maryland’s HB1422
Last week we asked you to take action on the Senate version, SB914; this week the companion House bill HB1422 will be heard.
This bill protects our genetic integrity by banning discrimination based on refusal to undergo a genetic procedure.

Maryland’s HB1422 prohibits discrimination in employment, education, public accommodations, commercial leasing, and housing based on a person’s refusal to undergo a genetic procedure. This bill is now set for a hearing at the House Health and Government Operations Committee on Friday March 8, 2024.

Maryland law already protects your genetic privacy, and this bill would recognize your right to maintain your own genetic integrity by prohibiting unwanted genetic procedures. This will protect you from both existing procedures and newly developed technologies that can alter your genetic materials.
