Can you tell USDA no to electronic animal ID?
NO LONGER ACTIVE – Comment Period Closed 10/5/2020
Please see the following letter and alert from our colleagues at FarmandRanchFreedom.org. Attorney Judith McGeary is asking for your action to oppose the mandatory animal ID that benefits large meatpacking corporations (many of which are foreign controlled corporations like Smithfield and JBS) at the expense of family farmers, rural communities, and our national food security.
Dear Colleagues,
Several years ago, you joined FARFA in a letter to USDA objecting to its apparent plans to expand mandatory animal ID. The agency went quiet for a while but has now come back with a plan that effectively mandates electronic ID for cattle. Attached is an action alert that we developed in cooperation with other organizations concerned about this mandate on small farmers and ranchers.
The deadline for submitting comments to the USDA is October 5. I know everyone has a LOT on their plates right now, and I wanted to make sure that this hadn’t slipped under the radar. You are welcome to use the attached alert in its entirety, or tailor it or borrow pieces – whatever makes it easiest for you to do an alert of your own, if you are able to do one. If there’s any information I can provide, please let me know.
All the best,
Judith
