Take Action to OPPOSEfour Minnesota bills that put in jeopardy the health freedom and rights of parents to make important medical decisions for their children.
Please note that we would like you to take action TWICE on this alert: once for HF 3239/SF 3439, and once more for the other three bills.
1. House bill3239/Senate bill 3439 attempts to repeal Minnesota’s conscientiously held belief exemption to the MMR vaccine for all daycare, public, private and even homeschooled children in Minnesota. This bill is in the Senate Education Policy Committee.
2. Senate bill 4458 would eliminate Minnesota’s conscientiously held belief exemptions for every child.
3. House bill 3775/Senate bill 4017 requires a parent that seeks a conscientious exemption to meet with a doctor to complete a state mandated education session. This bill is in the Senate Health and Human Services Committee.
4. House bill 4439/Senate bill 4416 allows the Minnesota Commissioner of Health alone to add vaccines to the Minnesota schedule.
Minnesota law has a longstanding trust and support of parental rights in a parent’s decision regarding childhood vaccines. The conscientiously held belief exemption is a fundamental pillar of health freedom and parental rights in Minnesota.
Minnesota parents are perfectly capable of making hard decisions for the medical care of their children including whether to use vaccines. Vaccines carry significant risks, and it should be up to the parents to discern which vaccines to use, when and how often.
Legislators need to respect parental wishes because the parents are the ones responsible for the care of their children. And if a child is injured by a vaccine, parents care for the child. It should be their decision.
