5 Minutes for Freedom!

5 Minutes for Freedom was given by attorney Diane Miller at the Health and Freedom Summit in Nashville, TN on December 5th, 2021. You can view the video here or read the written version below.

We the people, our ancestors of the thirteen colonies, architected a government to prevent the people from experiencing abuse of power, from entities that historically perpetrated abuse, domination, colonialization and imperialism.

Starting from the bold and new premise that rights come from God and from being born as human, and not from governments, we designed a government that acknowledged the spiritual quality of humans.  A government of these people, by them, and for them.  A government unique in all the world.

Importantly, as I stand here with my fellow lawyer colleagues, that new government was a government based on words, instead of a government based on a group of people with blood lines or financial status.

Yes, we are a country based on words.  We call those words “law”.

And in less than 300 years we citizens, with our elected lawmakers, have filled libraries with new laws, and used our laws to create 400 federal agencies each with their own libraries of regulations, and each state with their own laws and their own agencies with regulations.

All this based on the words of one short document – The Constitution of the United States, the “law of the land”.

Our constitution is a human, spirited, prayerful document, of the vision of a group of committed and faith filled people yearning to protect the sacred inalienable rights of all people to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

It was designed to weather the storms of a changing evolving world – so that as we grew in our consciousness it could reflect what we needed to make sure that above all, abuse of power would never creep in and destroy the fundamental rights that we all have as humans.

Every crisis that we have experienced where there was oppression and suffering of our people we were called to look to the “law of the land” to guide us in our evolution of the American spirit of freedom.  We have had severe growing pains as we have learned the meaning of liberty and freedom, but we have stamped out slavery and human servitude, made sure women and all citizens vote, discerned conscientious objections to war and killing, protected the religious beliefs of cultures, demanded civil and equal rights for all and much more.

But this crisis is different.  It is the Big Bang of freedom’s evolution.  And our America is in the cross hairs of the explosion.

We have a new element since 1900.  It is the evolution of technology.

Current technology has the capacity to control, kill and destroy humans without confrontation or traditional physical war or explosions.

Technology has the capacity to make mother earth uninhabitable.

Technology has the capacity to convert humans into non-humans and without their consent.

Technology has the capacity to change the nature of what it means to be human.

Technology in and of itself does not recognize the fundamental principle that humans have a sacred side, a soul path, a yearning to following their hearts and pursuits, a need for freedom to decide their own destiny, to be free from abuse of power and domination, and their need and innate inter-connectedness with and dependence on all of nature and mother earth, and their expectation of life, liberty and happiness.

Technology is a tool – it does not have a soul.

It can be used for good.

It can be used for evil and tyranny.

Will those who own or implement technology be held to the moral principles embodied in our constitution?

Can our constitution provide the much-needed guidance now and reign in technology to ensure the survival of humans and our planet?

Will we and our lawmakers act quickly and will guardrails be constructed soon enough to save our lives?

We are the people.

This is our government.

These are our laws.

This is our dream – the sacred flame of freedom, the protection of the human spirit.

We will now all act together and answer our individual callings to do what we can to steer our sacred ship to safe harbor.

Thankyou.
