The solution set forth by our trusted colleagues at CCHF to stop REAL ID is to refuse to get one or to turn yours in for a regular driver’s license or state ID and get a passport for airline travel.

CCHF has released a summary document titled “Real ID – Six Facts.”  You can take action by going to the CCHF site where you can contact your U.S. Representative and Senator to ask them to support Senator Rand Paul’s bill and repeal the REAL ID Act. 

  The national surveillance system

REAL IDs provide the government with the ability to control and track Americans including the ability for DMVs to collect facial geometry data and precise body measurements (“biometric coordinates”). These ID cards can be mandated for access to medical care, as the Unique Patient ID (UPI). They can be used for digital vaccine passports, a global digital ID system, banking mandates, college attendance, voting, and more. If the federal government wishes to control and surveil the people, the REAL ID gives them the power.

Taking power away from the states to “keep us safe”

The idea for a “Real ID” was rolled out by the 9/11 Commission in 2004, as a way to “keep us safe” with a federal identification system. The REAL ID Act was then quickly passed in 2005. It took the power to regulate IDs from the states, where it had always been, and gave that power to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Although the original focus of the Act was commercial flight and securing entrance to federal buildings, the law allows the Secretary of DHS to expand the “official purposes” for which a REAL ID is required.

Stop the surveillance system

As noted above, CCHF is leading the charge nationwide against the federal REAL ID system and has set up a Take Action link where you can support U.S. Senator Rand Paul’s new legislation to repeal the REAL ID Act of 2005. You can also opt out of the REAL ID and use a passport for any airline travel. Under the law, this federal ID could be used to restrict and control all of life.”
