Health Freedom Impacted
by the Larger Freedom Conversation

Written by Diane Miller JD
We are in a pivotal time in history. The understanding of freedom, fairness, justice, transparency, and vision for peace and harmony are all front and center in the conversation of freedom in our nation and in the world.
As it all applies to health freedom, our first focus is always on the health and freedom of each individual. We seek to understand what a person needs in order for them to act with confidence in making choices as they see fit for their health and the health of their family. Access to truthful information, protection of individual choices and bodily autonomy, access to the healing options that a person prefers, and access to clean air, water, and sunlight, all are paramount to empowering people in their health journeys.
What does health freedom have to do with the larger conversation of freedom? Our lives and our health are impacted by the stress, discord, and polarization happening in our families, communities, and our country regarding human, social, and political issues impacting all people. The challenge is to protect each person’s bodily autonomy and opportunity to maintain their health, while participating in a harmonious community. The fact is that being human gives each person an opportunity to experience health and their health challenges individually, some experiencing suffering to a greater extent than others. And living in community gives us the opportunity to grapple with the overarching reality that we are all human and here together and are challenged to live with each other in health and harmony.
Over the years, the more freedom challenges and circumstances I have witnessed through my work in the health freedom arena which have impacted the personal health journeys of individuals, the more I have come to believe that freedom itself, just like our health journeys, is paramount and always requires a conversation. True freedom is always a conversation. It is ongoing. It is the eternal conversation between humans of the world.
Commitment to the Freedom Conversation and Listening: I submit that if we want freedom and harmony in our own lives, we have to be committed to the concept of freedom and harmony overall and actively listen and work together to find that freedom and harmony.
The following is from my book on health freedom i:
“…freedom is not something just to be “had.” Rather, freedom is necessarily an active
experience, an ongoing conversation. Freedom requires a constant and
ongoing conversation about life issues in the context of oneself and others
and in the context of one’s own community and environment.”
“Freedom cannot be defined or experienced outside the context of an
ongoing conversation in the living, changing universe because we are
living, growing, evolving human beings. We are interdependent on one
another and our environment, and we are forever changing. It is the freedom
conversation that calls us to experience life in its fullest sense.”
“The freedom conversation is not for sleeping people. Freedom is for a
people awake and engaged! The amazing design of our country allows for
people to continually and fully participate with each other in communities
and in government and be purposefully in the conversation of freedom.”
“It takes a strong elasticity to maintain flexibility, and it takes work to discern
solutions for the good of the individual and the good of the whole. It takes
a strong commitment and connection to listen to and hear the tension
between the parts and the whole to find the harmony.”
If the golden elastic cord of our yearnings to be free and living in peace is strong and flexible among all of us in this ever-changing world, then the eternal freedom conversation we participate in with truth, transparency, integrity, and compassion, will lead us to an overall place of balance and harmony.
“Living Freedom
In a harmonious community, there dwells a group consciousness
that animates the community persona while holding sacred and
responsible the individual sovereign life experience to reign
supreme.”ii
