Oppose Bill HR2289 that Removes Local Control of Cell Tower Placement

HR2289 if signed into law will take away a local government’s ability to regulate where and how they want a cell tower or antenna located and allow industry to put up towers next to your home, a school, or in a park where children play, without the ability for local governments to consider environmental review, or historic preservation. This bill is being heard on April 20, 2026 in the House Rules Committee but will stop if it does not pass out of the Rules Committee!

Write your Congressman and Oppose House bill HR2289, the “American Broadband Deployment Act of 2026.”

Cell towers and antennas harm people, wildlife, and plants

Cell towers and antennas emit high levels of wireless radiation. The Agency charged with oversight of this radiation, the FCC, was court-ordered in 2021 to review the science showing biological harm from wireless radiation including that from cell towers and antennas. The FCC has not followed the court order. People, wildlife, trees, plants, insects and birds can all suffer from wireless radiation. Local governments should be able to regulate cell tower and antenna sites. This power should not go to industry!

TAKE MORE ACTION and Call the House Rules Committee

TAKE ACTION by calling the members of the House Rules Committee. Even if you are not a constituent, please let them know that this bill will affect all people in the United States, not just their constituents.

What you could say:

“Please oppose HR2289 as I do not want a cell tower placed in front of my home, or on a school, or in a park with no local control of placement. I do not want control in the hands of the federal government when it should be local. Local control is best.”

If you are not a constituent, you could add:

“This is an issue that will affect all Americans across the country, so your vote will affect me, my family, and my community. I urge you to vote no!”
